Big Boy!

We've had a MAJOR transition in this household this week...*insert 2001 Space Odyssey theme song*...the toddler bed has been packed away and Isaac is officially in THE BIGGEST OF BIG BOY BEDS! 

Apparently, big boys also don't wear shirts.

As we packed up the toddler bed, which had also been his crib, it occurred to me that is was EXACTLY 4 years ago I was putting it together; only able to imagine the little boy that would sleep in it.

Fast forward four years, and my now not-so-little boy was using the tools to take apart his own bed.

The springs didn't actually need to be removed, but HUGE points for effort.

With the toddler bed packed away, the baby bumpers and crib sheets washed and stacked (WAAAAHHHHH!!!) we built his new bed. Apparently, when the instructions say two adults are needed for assembly, that actually means one determined momma willing to balance partial assembled bed frames on her head and hips while not swearing at the allen wrench...and a 5 year old with a screw driver:

I promise you, my child is fully dressed...on occasion.

He made it through the night with only a pool noodle between his new Olaf sheets to protect him from falling. It must have been a good nights sleep...he woke up EARLY and FULL of energy. (Lord, help me)

I'm so proud of my BIG boy and the strides he has been taking. To think this is the bed he'll most likely be in until he is a teenager...*sniff*...I think I need to go curl up with his baby sheets and cry a little. <3

KING 5 Interview

Well, the doors of opportunity to share our story keep opening! After the People magazine article went live last week I received a call from our local NBC affiliate asking for an interview. This was one request I wasn't expecting as the thought of being on TV is pretty much top of my Worst Nightmare List---somewhere between being surrounded by rats, my teeth falling out, and having my eye brows plucked (those are legitimate fears, people!). I consented only after hoping my cold wouldn't go away and I would have to cancel...

Darn you Dayquil and peppermint green tea!

Isaac did GREAT, even wearing a microphone and showing the TV crew how to use his Toy Story camera. Of course, half of what we shared didn't air but the reporter seemed generally engaged and very interested in the stories our Bethany representative who was with us shared with her. I hope that means there will be more opportunities for other families to share their stories. As the interview ended, the videographer whispered that his cousin has Down syndrome; "everyone loves him. He's the absolute center of our family!".  Oh, I don't I know it!

KING 5 Interview 

So while we are in this season of public testimony, we continue to pray for the now FIFTY children in the Bamboo Project.  God being glorified through their little lives is why we share the Lord's story in ours. I truly believe each of those children (and the hundreds of others with Down syndrome in China not specifically with this project) have a future and a hope set before them. And that families that step forward to welcome them home will have their lives changed FOREVER...in the absolute best way possible!
