It is toasty in Albania! Wowzers. The 1/2mile walk to and from the orphanage (6 times per day) is a sweaty one. The Mother Superior let me in the doors today and asked if I was hot. "Just wait until June 15th--it feels like the earth is on fire!" Oh sweet lord. Don't tell me that.
My girl doesn't seem to mind the heat, or at least she can't quite tell me. I bring a little something for us to do during our visits, but I discovered quickly we need to find a quiet spot out of the eye shot of the toddlers in the house or there is a mad riot. Silly kids. I can give kisses to all of you--I promise! It doesn't matter how nice or well cared for an orphanage is, it is still not a home and there is no mommy and/or daddy. It is heartbreaking to see such beautiful faces and know the potential future that lays before them. Adoptions in Albania are few and far between and nearly impossible for children with notable physical needs or older children. This was not the plan the Lord had for these children---and He has asked us to intervene. Living out James 1:27 is a proactive event--we need to seek out the widow and the orphan and help to first prevent and then meet their needs, in all the creative ways the Holy Spirit gives us; adoption is just one of those ways. These are some of the faces I was surrounded by today:
Annie got to join me at the orphanage for a bit this afternoon while my girly and I played with the apps on my phone (wait until Isaac finds out!). ANNIE WAS IN HEAVEN. God is planting something deep and special in her heart. I am so very blessed to a front row spectator to this miracle!
Tomorrow will be a particularly special day...it's my girls first communion! While our family is not Catholic I know what a special event this is for her and her relationship with the Lord and I want to honor every bit of it. So we will drive to the NW corner of the country to her home orphanage and parish to participate in her day. It will be a long day (with HOURS in the air conditioned car--hallelujah!) with a little overnight trip into the capital, but we are ready.
Good night from Albania:
Desiree, i do love your heart and that you are bridging the gap for our special kids around the world. You are a gift to so many littles. Paulette
