An Old Timey Vacation

Back when 2020 was normal...what was that? January 23rd?,  I planned out our summer vacation schedule and day trip bucket list.  Sneaking in one last weekend to an old Western town in the mountains before school started was on the list: An Old Timey Vacation to Winthrop.  Because 2020 happened, I never actually got a good look at the map before we set off for our weekend. We ended up touring the entirety of the North Cascade Highway and could not have picked a better weekend to do it!

My road trippers.  If Mila gets the giggles in the backseat, I know it's because Isaac is doing this...

Lunch spot: Ross Lake

What a glorious drive!

Riverside on the Methow River for a few nights:

My kids are great travelers, but the not-so-unspoken deal is this: let Mom drive to all the places and take all the pictures and she'll let us swim every day.  They aren't wrong.

Isaac posing!  😂😂

"Lydia E Pinhams Vegetable Compound. (Contains 18% alcohol used solely for solvent & preservative) for Prolapsus Uteri or falling of the womb and other Female Weaknesses..." 😲  Funny, I don't recall this regimen mentioned in my Pharmacology classes. I am pretty sure though that that 'solvent & preservative' will fix just about anything.

The drive back home.  I'm so used to the blue & green sharp edges of the Western face of the Cascades.  The Eastern side has a totally different look and it's beautiful!

This was a good little trip for us.  The kids traveled great and even let me nap for a few minutes at our hotel!  Isaac had a break through in the restaurant ordering department (he is a fantastic & adventurous eater but often asks for the same thing when we go out. But, not this weekend-he ordered all sorts of different items!) and Mila said "I'm sorry" for the FIRST time this weekend. After two years of modeling repentance, grace & forgiveness those words finally left her mouth. That felt like a MAJOR breakthrough into her little heart. And all it took was an old timey vacation!
