Days 8 & 9 - Lots of Firsts

We finished our time in Guiyang City in the Guizhou Province yesterday (Friday). Wandering the 5 block radius that we felt comfortable in and going to the cultural museum helped frame for us the culture that Isaac is from. I know I'll never been able to provide for him a true Chinese home, but I hope to honor the nation that has shaped him and the long line of people that have influenced his genetics. As this particular part of the country has very few American visitors, you can imagine the looks, stares and comments we have received while walking around town. Honestly, that has been a little rough to swallow for us three. Isaac doesn't seem to mind and just waves his chubby little arms around to whomever will look his direction. Leaving this part of the country & flying to the GuongDong Province where the US Consulate is, will hopefully provide us with more friendly reception. If nothing else, the other adoptive families in our group are joining us in Guanzhou tomorrow and we will be able to swap stories.  There was a real connection with several families in the group while we were in Beijing and I'm looking forward to being with them again.

Isaac did AWESOME on our 90minute flight to Guanzhou.  He sucked on his fruit snack during lift off, ate his favorite cracker and laughed during turbulence, then fell right asleep.  Mom & Jessie both noted that I am getting spoiled with such an easy kiddo.  I responded that maybe I'm just an awesome mom!  They both laughed...but why?  :)

We arrived late at our hotel, but Isaac slept through it all straight to this morning (Saturday).  Our reunion with the other families was joyous.  I love seeing how God matched each family perfectly with THEIR child and their Gotchya Day stories. Issac interacts well with all the kids (ages 21 months to 7 years; he is the youngest) and attempts to grab the nose of everyone he meets.  :)  Our big field trip of the day was to for the official immigration medical check.  I was not particularly excited about this day.  Frankly, I don't trust the system and planned on being very over protective---I even brought our own supplies should any invasive procedures need to be done. But thankfully, Isaac passed his "medical check" (if you want to call it that) without any major melt downs.  To be in this clinic FULL of little ones & their foreign parents (mostly American) prepping to come home was full of emotions.  It hurt to know so many precious ones come through this clinic every day. It's beyond painful to think of how many DON'T make it this far. And wonderfully exciting to see so many families who have gone to the ends of the Earth to find their children.  These sweethearts will have the medical, educational & social resources that they need to live long & healthy lives...not to mention the spiritual covering.
Isaac helped celebrate Gramma's birthday today with his first spaghetti dinner & cake with our group of 25.  The noodles were a big hit as were the candles.  Hopefully, the first of many, many family celebrations to come!
